Hair thinning and baldness can be a natural part of aging—but for some, hair loss can lead to insecurity and low self-esteem. At Live Medspa in Miami, FL, we believe that everyone to look and feel their best—that’s why we offer PRP and PRF therapy!
PRP Hair Restoration Therapy
Platelet-rich plasma (or PRP for short) therapy has been used for various medical applications over the last five decades! It involves using platelet-rich plasma extracted from your blood to heal injuries and promote cellular growth. (Isn’t science so cool?!)
How Does the Treatment Work?
Here’s the rundown; it works by injecting platelet-rich plasma into your scalp. PRP stimulates new hair growth from previously dormant hair follicles, while strengthening and thickening existing hair strands. Most candidates require up to three treatments spaced four to six weeks apart. To achieve your hair goals, you may need maintenance treatments every four to six months.
How Is It Performed?
Hair restoration using platelet-rich plasma is a three-step treatment. Here’s what you can expect during the treatment:
We start off by getting your blood drawn (not too much, don’t worry!)
Then, that same blood sample gets spun in a centrifuge to separate its content—and we use the platelet rich plasma found at the of that sample to restore and enhance hair growth.
We collect all that platelet-rich plasma using a syringe, and inject it into the desired areas of your scalp.
After two to three months, you should notice an improvement in your hair volume (all good things take time)! The full results of the therapy will show within six months to a year.
Is this Treatment Right for Me?
We want everyone to reach their hair goals. However, don’t pursue this treatment if:
You are taking blood thinning medication
Have thyroid issues
Have an autoimmune condition
Okay, what’s PRF Hair Restoration Therapy?
Platelet-Rich-Fibrin (PRF) hair restoration is a revolutionary, non-surgical treatment that can rebuild and restore dormant hair follicles. The therapy promotes tissue regeneration and repair using cell growth factors, leading to restored hair growth and thickness!
What’s the difference between PRP and PRF?
Although platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) therapies have some similarities, certain key differences set them apart. Basically, PRF has more healing factors than PRP, making it superior for hair restoration. The higher platelet concentration, white blood cell, and stem cell combinations make PRF more effective.
What Is the Treatment Like?
Almost like the PRP treatment, except this one has one more step!
We collect your blood sample and spin it in a centrifuge, where the PRF is extracted and collected.
Next, (this is where it gets a little different) we will numb your scalp using a topical anesthetic lotion, making sure that you’re comfortable during the treatment.
Finally, the PRF is injected into the areas of the scalp where hair loss or thinning has occurred. Done! There is no downtime, and you’ll be free to go and resume your normal daily activities.
Are You an Ideal Candidate?
This treatment is ideal for reawakening dormant hair follicles and is excellent for both men and women who are experiencing hair loss in the early stages. This treatment also works well for women who have traction alopecia, a type of hair thinning caused by pulling the hair too tightly, thus stifling hair growth. It’s a great way to treat hair loss, without having to take medication for life.
Okay …now how do I maintain the treatment??
With the right health and lifestyle changes, you can make the most out of your treatment. Let’s start with the basics;
Diet—after your treatment session, we’ll advise you to maintain a nutritious diet that’s rich in iron and vitamins! Try to limit the simple carbohydrates and sugars, as insulin resistance (caused by a high-carb diet), can lead to hair loss.
Make sure you’re getting all of the vitamins and minerals that your hair needs to stay healthy! Consider taking some provider-recommended nutritional supplements to enhance your health and boost hair growth.
Lifestyle—If you smoke or vape, quit! Smoking is terrible for your health, especially for your hair growth. You can still reverse the effects of smoking if you quit early… but it’s never too late to stop smoking! To maintain the best results from your hair loss treatments, quitting tobacco can prevent hair thinning in the future.
Hair Products--Taking biotin pills or increasing your biotin intake through food might is one way to maintain healthy hair growth. You may also use shampoos containing biotin, which can directly nourish your scalp. Hair products that contain ketoconazole can also help preserve the healthy hormone balance in your hair follicles.
